Fiona Lawe Davies is well known to lovers of the vibrant Perth jazz music scene. Her voice is unique, both pure and sultry, with a rhythmic lilt and intimate style. Her ability to capture and hold the ear and eye of her audience is due to a well crafted stage presence, honed during her many years of singing, her time as a professional ballet dancer and performance experience as a classical violinist. Her musicality is founded in her background in classical and jazz music.
Fiona grew up listening to an eclectic mix of jazz, classical, blues and pop music – a trip through her ipod today would uncover everything from old school jazz classics to indie rock. Fiona’s first love is good songs – she draws her repertoire not only from jazz standards but also gets a thrill out of stripping back and rebuilding pop songs in her own style.
Inspired by historically classic artists such as Julie London and Joe Williams, modern jazz icons including Shirley Horn and Madeleine Peyroux as well as contemporary performers such as Rufus Wainwright, this outstanding vocalist cannot fail to impress even the most discerning listener.
Fiona has been delivering consistently sophisticated performances as resident artist in several of Perth’s jazz venues and is a regular sell out performer at Perth’s premier jazz venue, The Ellington Jazz Club.
